Prepping for triple coupons

May 20th, 2009 · 1 Comment

The word is out among the coupon crowd that Harris Teeter grocery stores will be offering its triple coupon promotion again, starting next Wednesday, May 27, and running for a full week.
Wow. This is the third or fourth month in a row that Harris Teeter has offered triple coupons during the last week of the month. I’m loving Harris Teeter.
Since there won’t be any coupons coming out in this Sunday’s newspaper because of the Memorial Day weekend, it’s time to get the coupon binder in shape to make the most of the opportunity.
In preparation for triples, here are a few things I typically do:
*file any and all loose coupons I have around the house.
*purge all expired coupons from my binder.
*monitor local and national coupon boards for a list of especially good deals for triples. Often, these sites will post a preview list of what will be on sale. My favorite sites for triples preparation are: savvydollar.org, a North Carolina-based deals site; and hotcouponworld.com, a comprehensive national deals forum.
*check thecouponclippers.com, a coupon-clipping service based in Florida, to see if it is worthwhile to place an order. Thecouponclippers.com often has coupons with a higher value than the ones printed in my local newspaper. For instance, when the Raleigh, N.C., area gets a coupon for 40 cents off a product, thecouponclippers.com may have that same coupon for 75 cents off.
*while on my regular shopping trip to Harris Teeter, I will take note of the prices of items having high-value coupons for them. Some great triples deals can be found on regular-priced items not mentioned in the sales circular.
*keep in touch with my comrades in couponing to see if they have picked up on any deals I may have missed.
*attend a coupon swap. You would be surprised how many coupons you can amass at a swap because of folks’ widely varied shopping habits and dietary needs.
*keep in mind that midway through the triples promotion brand-new deals will become available with Sunday’s newspaper coupons. This time around, two inserts are scheduled for May 31, according to taylortownpreview.com.
What do you do to prepare for a triple-coupon promotion? I’m always looking for ways to streamline my preparations and maximize my deals.

The most important thing I find in prepping for triples is WRITING THE LIST!
Now that this is a weeklong event and you usually find the shelf wiped out of at least one item each time, you need to keep a master list and check off the items as you “use up” the coupons in your binder.
